Wallasey Ferries
 

 

In the 1890's the  Birkenhead  and  Wallasey  Corporations  began to replace  their  paddle steamers  with   twin  screw  vessels  that  were faster and gave and  gave  the  passengers much better  accommodation. The Seacombe  and Birkenhead  ferryboats were  coal  burners,  they  were  later  converted  to fuel oil. In both World Wars a number of ferryboats were requisitioned by the Admiralty
