The CD is compiled from 100 old post cards and photographs. The pictures of the ferries cover a period from the 1890's through to the 1930's. It was during this time that the Birkenhead and Wallasey Ferries were at their busiest. |

The slide show opens with background music and a view of a ferryboat in mid-river, and in the distance cranes of Cammell Laird's shipyard can be seen. The River Mersey at the turn of the 1900's, was a busy place as the transatlantic liners arrived and left the Port of Liverpool. A Birkenhead ferryboat is pictured passing the Cunard Liner Lusitania, while another view shows a luggage boat loading horse drawn carts at the Liverpool Landing Stage, with the White Star Liner Baltic anchored in the mid-river. |

The Birkenhead and Wallasey luggage boats, operated a
regular service to carry vehicles between Liverpool and Wirral. A number
of scenes show vehicles using the Birkenhead, Seacombe and Liverpool
floating roadways to gain access to the landing stages and luggage boats.
Also, pictures show the luggage boats loaded with vehicles as they make
the river crossing. The Birkenhead luggage boat service closed in 1941 and
the Wallasey service in 1947. |
