The most impressive of the sailing-ships to be built were the five masted vessels. Only seven were ever constructed, four were German, two French and one Danish. They all proved to be lucrative vessels but were just to large. The huge Prussen was the only five masted full-rigger ever built, she belonged to the Flying P. Line of Hamburg, which operated a fleet of sailing-vessels that carried regular shipments of saltpetre from Chile to Europe |
