Sailing Vessels |

In the 1890's the Scottish firm of A. McMillan and Son at Dumbarton were building steel hulled sailing-ships, as were other shipyards on the Clyde. These vessels were designed for tramping trade. Crews would be housed in a forward deck-house with bunks on two levels, they had a table and chairs and cupboards for crockery and clothing. The Captain and officers had better quarters and a saloon at the stern |
