Under the cover of darkness on the 6 November 1910 the five-masted sailing-ship Prussen collided with a cross-channel steamer in fog off Beachy Head. Holed in the bow the Prussen was taken in tow by three tugs, whose lines parted in bad weather that resulted in the vessel being driven ashore in Fan Bay. There were attempts to salvage her but the vessel was stuck fast and was broken up by the weather over the years.       ( Prussen Wks 53)
